Post Basic Otorhinolaryngology Nursing Programme

The Post Basic Otorhinolaryngology Nursing Programme is a 12-month Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) training programme designed for Registered Nurses. The programme runs annually from November to November.

Application forms are available for sale between March and May, while the entrance examination is conducted in August.

From 1999 to 2025, the College has trained approximately nine hundred and thirty-seven (937) nurses. All graduates have been examined, qualified, and licensed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria to practice as Registered ORL Nurses.

Training Programmes

The National Ear Care Centre, Kaduna, through its College of Nursing Sciences, offers the following training programmes:

Primary Ear Care Course
This is a four-week course designed for Community Health Officers, Assistant Community Health Extension Workers, and Community-Based General Nurses. The Centre also organizes specialized training for State Local Government Service Commissions upon request. The course is conducted twice a year.

Refresher Course
This course is designed for ORL Nurses who have not been registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria for more than five years after graduation.

Clinical Experience
The Centre organizes a four-week short course on ENT for students undergoing training in other health institutions within Kaduna State and beyond.

Train-the-Trainers Programme
This is a specialized ENT training programme for Medical Health Officers and members of the general public across the country. It is usually conducted in collaboration with Christoffel Blinden Mission (CBM) and the World Health Organization (WHO), which provide the course curriculum to ensure its effectiveness. The training is held annually.

Workshop on the Dangers of Traditional Uvulectomy
This workshop is held in March or April and aims to eradicate the harmful practices of traditional barbers (Wanzami), thereby reducing child mortality and morbidity. Target participants include traditional barbers, primary healthcare workers, and the general public.

In-House Workshops
The Centre regularly organizes in-house professional workshops for its staff to enhance their efficiency and professional development. Staff members are also sponsored to attend workshops both within Nigeria and internationally.
